Who is responsible

RIP MY BUILD controls the personal information used to operate this website and publish memorials. Contact us at hello@ripmybuild.com.

Polar separately controls information it needs as merchant of record for checkout and payment. Linked projects, new businesses and other third-party sites apply their own privacy policies.

02

Information we collect

  • Memorial content: project name and URL, maker name or pseudonym, project dates, hours, epitaph, cause of death, lesson, and an optional new-business URL.
  • Order information: product type, checkout reference, payment status, amount, currency and the metadata needed to fulfill a purchase. Polar collects billing, email and payment information. We do not store full card details.
  • Funeral invitations: recipient addresses and the optional note remain in your browser session. They are not included in Polar checkout metadata or sent to RIP MY BUILD.
  • Purchase activity: which memorial receives a purchased rose or adornment. Copy and share actions happen on your device and are not sent to us as analytics events.
  • Technical information: IP address, browser, device, request timestamps, referring page, error and security logs processed by our hosting providers.
  • Support: your email address and anything you include when contacting us.
03

How we use information

We use information to publish and maintain memorials; fulfill purchases; display roses and adornments; operate successor links; provide support; prevent fraud, abuse and duplicate fulfillment; diagnose errors; secure the Service; comply with law; and defend legal claims.

We do not sell personal information or use it for cross-context behavioral advertising.

04

Funeral invitation privacy

If you prepare a funeral invitation, the guest list and optional note are held temporarily in your browser session. After a paid memorial is confirmed, the website creates a BCC email draft using a mailto: link. RIP MY BUILD does not transmit, store or send the recipient addresses.

Your browser, operating system and chosen email provider process the draft when you open it. Review the recipients and message before sending, and only contact people you are permitted to email.

05

Legal bases in the EEA and UK

Where applicable, we process information because it is necessary to perform a contract, because we have legitimate interests in operating and securing the Service, because we must comply with legal obligations, or because you have given consent. You may object to processing based on legitimate interests.

06

What becomes public

Memorial content is public by design. It may be indexed, cached, quoted or shared by visitors and search engines. Removing a memorial from our Service may not remove copies made elsewhere.

Payment details, checkout references, support messages and technical logs are not intentionally published.

07

Who processes information

  • Polar provides checkout, merchant-of-record, tax, invoice, receipt, fraud, dispute and refund services.
  • Vercel hosts and delivers the website and may process request, network and runtime logs.
  • Upstash, when configured, stores published memorial records, rose counts, adornments and duplicate-fulfillment markers.

We may also disclose information to professional advisers, authorities or other parties when reasonably necessary to comply with law, protect rights and safety, or complete a business reorganization.

08

International transfers

Our providers operate internationally, so information may be processed outside your country. Where required, transfers rely on recognized safeguards such as adequacy decisions, standard contractual clauses or another lawful transfer mechanism.

09

How long we keep it

Published memorials are kept for the life of the Service unless removed under our policies or at a verified request. Duplicate-payment markers may be kept for up to one year. Providers retain payment, tax, security and technical records according to their policies and legal obligations.

Support correspondence and records needed for disputes, security or compliance are kept only as long as reasonably necessary for those purposes.

10

Cookies and tracking

RIP MY BUILD does not currently set advertising cookies or operate behavioral analytics. The invitation feature uses session storage only to preserve a private draft across the Polar checkout redirect; the draft is removed after payment confirmation. Hosting infrastructure may process ordinary request and security information. When you continue to Polar checkout or visit an outbound link, that provider may use cookies under its own policy.

11

Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may ask to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of personal information, restrict or object to processing, or withdraw consent. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

Email hello@ripmybuild.com with the memorial URL and your request. We may need to verify your identity and relationship to the memorial before acting.

12

Security and children

We use reasonable technical and organizational safeguards, but no internet service is completely secure. Do not submit sensitive personal information in an obituary.

The Service is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their personal information. Contact us if you believe a child has submitted information.

13

Policy changes

We may update this Policy when our practices, providers or legal obligations change. We will post the new version here and change the effective date. Material changes will be highlighted when reasonably possible.

Questions, corrections or requests

Talk to the groundskeeper.

We would rather resolve a problem clearly than bury it in fine print.
