The postmortem
What lived.What died.What stayed.
- The original bet
- I believed that I could automate being an Agile coach or at least make it easier to have an agile behavioural coach accessible for leaders, one that can listen in on meetings or digest transcripts and give feedback on it and also work on points to improve. I had the idea and notion that it could work.
- The first warning
- One of the earliest signs that this was not going in the direction i wanted to was when i first tested it on myself and a colleague whereby the feedback or actions we would take did not really align to being or developing an agile mindset plus also a lot of the social cues where missed and not picked up on. As there is observable behaviour and then reported behaviour and feelings.
- Cause of death
- Instilling a mindset could not be done by an online platform at that time, it needed more human coaching and understanding, so in the end it got canned.
- Lesson left behind
- Guardrails are very important esp when working with automated online coaching, and also to really understand that there are somethings you cannot replace with a human coach when it comes to observing behaviour
- If we started again
- Honestly i would not do this at all but rather move and pivot to an online coach where it can work based on observable behaviour and also give space for the coachee to really dig deep, and also put in guardrails on the coaching ai to understand where and how to coach and deliver its messages in the way of a listening coach would do.
